To all lovers of Turkish (Ottoman) decorative art, three very beautiful Turkish ornaments are presented on this page.

We call them ‘Turkish’ based on the title of the book where they were found, but we could equally call them ‘Ottoman ornaments’. It is obvious that Ottoman decorative art has taken over much from Arab decorative art, as all three ornaments bear many similarities to Arab ornaments.

The first ornament consists of a black hexagon inside which is a simple ornament. The second ornament is in the shape of an eight-pointed star, consisting of a yellow border inside which a simple but beautiful foliage ornament is placed. Both of these ornaments consist of circularly arranged design elements characteristic of Turkish art. In the second one, these design elements are interconnected by curves so that in the center an interlaced ornament is formed with an eight-pointed star in the middle. The third ornament is symmetrical and consists of a border that has the shape of an architectural element called ‘pointed trefoil arch’, within which lies an ornament consisting of curved lines of foliage. We painted all three ornaments the same way they were originally painted in the book.

All three ornaments are interesting, and we hope that you will be able to use them somewhere, and if not, we hope your curiosity has been awakened to explore a little more on Ottoman decorative art. You will certainly not regret the time and effort invested!
