On this page you can download 6 patterns that we named Vectorized Moorish mosaics.

These patterns were named mosaics because they were described as such in the old book where we found them. If you look at them more closely, though, they are essentially 6 geometric repeating patterns (Tessellation patterns). Such repeating patterns are characteristic of Arab and Moorish decorative art and can often be found under the names of ‘mosaics’ or ‘lattice patterns’. The names were derived from the purpose of these patterns because Arab artists used them either to make stone mosaics (or tiles) or to make wooden panels, window coverings and panels, etc. Both applications make the interior extremely beautiful, giving it a touch characteristic of the Arab style.

Available file formats

Vectorized Moorish mosaics are available as usually in three file formats: Autodesk (dwg), Encapsulated PostScript (eps) and Scalable Vector Graphics (svg).

Today you can come across patterns like this in various places, especially when you visit the countries of the Middle East and North Africa where they are much used in the interior. All 6 mosaics patterns consist of lines and are properly drawn using a grid, i. e., in the way they used to be drawn by Arab artists. The patterns have not been authentically colored, and in order to do so, first you will have to study the color palette used by the Moorish artists. This shouldn’t be a problem as it is enough to search the internet for images that relate to the combination of the key words ‘Moorish’, ‘Arab’ (‘Arabic’), ‘tiles’ and ‘mosaic’.
