On this page you can download calligraphic flourishes that are nearly 500 hundred years old.

They were found in a Spanish copybook dating from the 16th century, in which they served as page decorations filling up blank spaces. We vectorized the flourishes by manual tracing of the outlines in vector software, after which they were filled black to resemble authentic calligraphy. Of course, if you want them in other color, you can easily change it by editing in appropriate software.

And some final information that might interest you about these beautiful flourishes: they were created by Juan de Icíar (~1520-1590) and published in a calligraphy copybook titled “Arte Subtilissima, por la Qual se Enseña a Escreuir Perfectamente” (The most delicate art of teaching a perfect hand) in 1550.; as for the author, de Icíar was one of the most important calligraphists of the Spanish Renaissance and author of the first calligraphy and handwriting manual published in Spain.
