On this page you can download 9 patterns of medieval hinge plates that you can easily make at home.

These Door hinge plate patterns come from the old public domain catalog. Throughout history the doors of old churches, castles, buildings and houses have been massive, i.e., made from thick solid wood. Such doors were heavy and required solid hinges with long hinge plates. Over time, hinge plates also adopted a decorative function. Each hinge plate consists of a leaf and knuckle, and two hinge plates joined with pin form a hinge.

As always, a 2D CAD (dwg) file format is available, as well as a vector  (eps and svg) file format  for those who are into graphic design.

If you take a look at the picture, these are not templates for hinge plates but for the leaf shape of the hinge plates. If you decide to cut hinge plates using these patterns, don’t forget to include the material for bending the knuckle. We haven’t drawn it because it depends on the pin diameter, so this part of the work is left to you. The hinge plates based on these patterns can be cut with hand tools or power tools, although this process is much shorter if CNC machines are used. On the Internet and YouTube there are plenty of texts and video materials on how to make hinge plates.
