Here you can download two simple 3D models based on the Arabic lattice pattern.

The initial 2D patterns that we use for modeling can be found here: Oriental lattice patterns. In the given picture you can clearly see that the 3D model on the upper right is a ‘repeating’ one, i.e., it can be copied as many times as needed to make a 3D model of the lattice pattern until it reaches the desired size. The other 3D model (on the lower left) takes the form of a dodecagram, i.e., a star polygon with 12 vertices. We find drawing 3D models like this not that interesting, and it is definitely more fun to draw 2D patterns than create 3D models from them.

Rhino 3D

Available NURBS and BREP file formats

.stp (Standardized 3D graphic exchange file format) - Solid 3D model

.3dm (Rhinoceros software native file format) - Surface 3D model

Patterns like this used to be popular in Arab culture, and you can most easily draw them using grids. We hope that you will be inspired to think of some practical use of the 3D models offered here, and that you will share photos of your works with us! If you need a different design of the lattice pattern 3D model, search for it on the Internet or simply design your own. To design 3D models, just the basic commands of any 3D software are needed, as well as some of your precious time and goodwill, of course!
