Sanding block plan - Free hand tool plan

Sanding block is one of the simplest hand tools that hold sandpaper when sanding some piece of wood by hand. Sanding blocks are helpful because they are preventing the waves when working on the wood – in another word, with the usage of a sanding block you will easily get smooth and flat finish. They can be used for dry sanding and they are especially recommended when doing a wet sanding finish.

Assemblage instructions

1. Put the Countersunk screw M5 x 40mm (part 6) into the hole on the Base (part 1) and then wrap the sanding paper around the Base, just like it is shown on picture below.

2. Fasten the Grip (part 2) to the assemblage from the previous step with Washer D5mm (part 3), Washer D5mm (part 4) and Hexagon nut M5 (part 5). The sanding paper should be big enough to wrap the sanding block and a few millimetres of it should lie between each side of Base and the Grip.

If you think that the sanding paper between base and grip should not stay unjused, you can make the Base (part 1) out of the metal, just like it’s shown in the picture below. This way, only few millimeters of the sanding paper will be enough to cover this part of the block.
