On this page you can download the plan for making knock down dog house, a pleasant home for your four-legged friend.
The design of this dog house makes possible its quick disassembly and transferral to another place. The dog house consists of 6 parts: front, bottom, side, roof side 1, roof side 2 and back.
Size of the completed knock-down dog house according to our plan are as follows: Height 592mm (23 5/16''), Width 688mm (27 1/16'') and Length 565mm (22 1/4'')
The dog house made according to this plan is not intended to withstand rain and snow. To make this possible, you have to redesign its roof (tab and slot joints) and cover it with some waterproof material.
When you cut out the parts, make sure that you slightly expand the slots with sandpaper or a file for easy assembly because the tabs will have slightly larger dimensions after surface finishing. This dog house of ours is made of 9.5mm thick plywood, so if you want to make it larger for your dog, accordingly use thicker plywood.
In the following pictures you can find all the dimensions needed for the making of the knock-down dog house. You are given a parts list, parts & assembly drawings and an exploded view. By clicking on the image, a recordable, high-resolution image will be displayed on the screen.
Sizing a dog house
So, do not necessarily stick to the dimensions given, but define them according to your dog's size. In the following picture there are four dog size characteristics to be measured (Total length, Total height, Shoulder height, Body width) , on the basis of which your dog house size is to be determined as follows:
- Total length of your dog – distance from the end of his nose to the base of his tail (do not include the tail). This dimension determines the width and depth of the dog house. Dog house width & depth should be greater than the value of your dog's total length.
- Total height of your dog – distance from ground to the top of his head. This dimension determines the height of the dog house. Dog house height should be 1 - 1.5 x dog's total height.
- Shoulder height – distance from the ground to the top of his shoulder. This dimension determines the height of the door openning. Door opening height should amount to 75 percent of the value of dog's shoulder height.
- Body width – width of your dog at it's widest point (for most breeds this will be between the front shoulders). This dimension determines the width of the door opening. Door opening width should be 20 to 40 mm larger than dog's width.
