On this page, you can download a 3D model of a spinning wheel modeled on the basis of the plan that you can find on the page: Spinning wheel plan. The 3D model was modeled in the free 3D CAD software FreeCAD.

The spinning wheel assembly consists of 75 parts that are grouped into 4 subassemblies:

  • wheel sub-assembly (22 parts),
  • flyer sub-assembly (26 parts),
  • construction sub-assembly (15 parts),
  • pedal sub-assembly (4 parts),
  • 8 parts are not in subassemblies.

FreeCAD 021.2 and FreeCAD 0.22 Weekly builds 37898

Available NURBS and BREP file formats

FCStd FreeCAD native file format

The parts were modeled in FreeCAD 021.2, and the assembly was made in the development version  FreeCAD 0.22 Weekly builds 37898. The parts are modeled in the Part Design Workbench and the assembly is assembled in the integrated Assembly workbench. You can open the assembly only in versions of FreeCAD in which this workbench is built in: FreeCAD 0.22 weekly builds 37878 or FreeCAD 1.0 (coming soon) and higher...

You can use the 3D model to make a real spinning wheel or to practice in FreeCAD:

  • parts modeling (Part or Part Design workbenches),
  • assembly modeling (Assembly workbench),
  • making technical drawings (TechDraw workbench)
  • rendering (Render workbench, ...)
  • ...

If you create technical drawings while practicing and want to share them with other FreeCAD users, feel free to send me the FreeCAD files, I will publish them here (and your name if you want).
