This is a collection of 24 pictograms from the 22nd Summer Olympics held in Moscow in 1980.

Olympic pictograms are visual graphic symbols used to represent each sport in competition games. They symbolically show a characteristic pose of athletes for each sport separately, and since 1964 it has been a custom for the Host to design pictograms for all types of Olympic sports. We can see them on medals, souvenirs, postage stamps, tickets, Olympic posters, venue maps, program and building walls…

Olympic pictograms are drawn according to strictly defined rules, which also applies to these pictograms here, e. g.: they are all drawn in a square; the line thickness is the same; all lines are horizontal, vertical, at 30 or 60 degrees; the same few curvatures are always used on each pictogram; the athlete's body silhouette except the head is merged with the sports prop…

These pictograms were created at a competition of art schools organized by the Olympic Committee and drawn by Nikolai Belkov. If you like subjects like this, we recommend that you research the Olympic pictograms for all the Summer Olympics so far; they are easy to find on the Internet, and it will be fun to see how various artists have solved this problem! While this may seem similar and boring for some, we are convinced that there are many of you who will find it more than interesting.
