We have found them in some old books dealing with the topic of embroidery craft and decorative art. In these books they are presented as cushion embroidery patterns, but you can also use them for other purposes requiring square patterns.

The pictures show that these are very beautiful patterns, whose design is still up-to-date. The first two patterns originate from the book Designs for needlework (by Liberty & Co, Published 1910), and the other two come from an old magazine (Arts and Crafts, Publisged 1904).
