The pattern that you can download here is called ‘Wrought Iron Design’ because it looks like it consists of various wrought iron elements.

It can be used as a square design, and by copying it in any 2D CAD or vector software you can easily form a repeating pattern. As you can see, the pattern consists of a circular motif in the center decorated with scrolls, around which there are 4 twisted bars at an angle of 45 degrees (these are also decorated with scrolls, i.e., with spiral decorative elements). The original pattern was found in an old wallpaper catalog; the moment we saw it, its beauty captivated us and we just knew that it wouldn’t take us too long to draw it. The catalog itself dates from 1890, so the pattern is well over a century old. If you are into drawing in 2D CAD or vector software, you can easily extract a central circular motif or a twisted bar and use them on one of your patterns.

We tried to draw the pattern as accurately as possible, and all you have to do now is scale it to the desired dimensions and color it to emphasize its beauty even more. We hope that you will enjoy this wrought iron design as much as we did, and that you will soon get a good idea about where to use it. There are a number of ways you can use this repeating pattern, but in our opinion, perhaps the most interesting would be to model a bas-relief based on it in some 3D software. This came to our mind because in the picture where it was found originally, it looked very nice, just like a bas-relief (probably embossed wallpapers). We assumed that the wallpapers were also some metallic color - due to the wrought iron motif this pattern probably wouldn’t have looked so nice with any other colors.
