Here you can download 3 very simple square patterns that we called Designs for tessellated pavements.

According to the scarce information contained in the book about the origin of these designs, the only conclusion we can make is that they are very reminiscent of those used on tiles in the Middle Ages (Encaustic tiles). However, we can’t help but just assume things because we do not even have an indication of whether the designs were taken over from a historical building or represented the work of an author who had  drawn them for the purposes of the book.

To avoid confusing you, consider them simple square patterns that can really be used in countless ways. In their original version in the book, they were colored black, so the color choices that you can see in the picture are actually ours. And one more thing - although the word ’tiles’ itself speaks of a possible purpose, it should be noted that such designs are very suitable to be repeated many times and decorate large surfaces (’repeating patterns’).We have found it in an old book  (The Decorator's assistant, Published 1847) and named them after the inscription beneath the image of the designs.
