The illustration has been made based on an image found in an old magazine featuring a wood engraving by the famous Hungarian painter, engraver and illustrator Károly (Karl) Józsa. 
Count Leo Tolstoy (Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy) is considered one of the greatest masters of realistic fiction in the history of world literature. He was a proficient writer, and his two most famous works, the novels "War and Peace" and "Anna Karenina", are among the most important of all time. In his youth he was a soldier in the Crimean War, which had a great influence on his philosophical and political views. Tolstoy was a Christian anarchist and a pacifist popularizing the idea of non-violent resistance. His works have been translated into many languages, screened, converted into theater plays, and have served as inspiration for a large number of writers, artists, theater and film directors...
