In the old book where we have found it, it is stated below the illustration that it shows the celebrated actor Tomedjuro Nakamura in the role of Kaishi. The illustration was drawn by the famous ukiyo-e artist Torii Kiyonobu in 1750. Torii Kiyonobu was a famous ukiyo-e painter and one of the founders of the Torii painting school. Ukiyo-e is a genre of woodblock prints and paintings that was popular in Japan between the 17th and 19th centuries.
