In the old book where we have found it, it is stated below the illustration that it shows the celebrated actor Tomedjuro Nakamura in the role of Kaishi. The illustration was drawn by the famous ukiyo-e artist Torii Kiyonobu in 1750. Torii Kiyonobu was a famous ukiyo-e painter and one of the founders of the Torii painting school. Ukiyo-e is a genre of woodblock prints and paintings that was popular in Japan between the 17th and 19th centuries. Except for the way we have painted it, the Illustration also differs from the original by the fact that we have traced a slightly modified image from the book and not the original Japanese illustration.
