Cover from old book

Here you can download an interesting vertical rectangular border that we found on the cover of an old book. The book was over 100 years old and information about it was printed inside the border.

Based on the look of this border and the age of the book, we assume it belongs to the Art Nouveau style. At that time, such borders were often found on book covers because they were practical. There was much space for inserting book information (title, author, publisher, etc.) inside these borders, and their design was such that only a few colors were used, which made printing easier. With the development of computers, desktop publishing, typesetting software and modern printing machines, books started to be mass printed. Problems related to matching letters, printing color illustrations, etc. are very easy to overcome today, but in the past these were expensive and time-consuming processes, and the quality was much lower than it is today. Because of this, these borders were very practical to use, on the one side they decorated the page, and on the other, they were easy and inexpensive to print.
