In the old book where we found them it is stated that they are designs for sgraffito technique, but since they are essentially frame designs, you can use them for any craft or artistic technique which they can serve.

Sgraffito is a decorating technique, in which the work is produced by scratching layers of plaster painted in different colors. By scratching the top layer the underlying layer is revealed, which creates a motif. Sgrafitto technique originated in Italy during the Renaissance. It was usually applied to the facades of buildings and later found its application in decorating of interiors and ceramic products.
