The picture shows the appearance of two architectural patterns that you can download here, which we called the Oriental lattice patterns.

This type of pattern is often found in books under the name lattice pattern, and the Arabs and Moors have often used it for decoration, most often in architecture. It is very easy to draw, especially in 2D CAD software. More precisely, it is necessary to draw a grid on the basis of which the pattern is obtained. There is a large number of grid types and ways to get 2D lattice patterns. The first pattern is a repeating pattern, and in the picture you can see only a pattern segment contained in the files. Using this segment, you can copy lattice patterns of any size. The second pattern is in the shape of a dodecahedron (any polyhedron with twelve flat faces) so you can decorate both circular and square surfaces with it.

These simple patterns are available in three different file formats: 2D CAD (dwg) and vector (eps and svg)

Lattice patterns have a large number of blank surfaces that are ideal for inserting ornaments. In this way, it is possible to obtain seemingly very complex but also beautiful patterns, and Byzantine and especially Arab artists used this type of pattern very often.

If you make negatives of the lattice pattern, i.e., paint the white fields and narrow the thick painted lines, you will get patterns once used by the Arabs to make mosaics and tiles. If you visit page Moorish glazed earthenware tile patterns, you will see two tile patterns.

If you like these two lattice patterns, feel free to use them. They are centuries-old and, as you can see, their design can still fit into different projects today.

Using both patterns, we also modeled 3D models that you can download here: Moorish lattice 3D models
