With the free woodturning project that you can download on this page you can make a nice and convenient wooden stand.
We called it a 'telephone stand' as it is ideal to serve as an old-style stand for the phone in a hallway or foyer. It can also be used as a stand holding a lamp, vase of flowers or for some other purpose. The stand top has a decorative design - at its base it is circular in shape with four cut circular segments, so it is very unusual. If you want your stand to have more useful space, you can make it to be square or circular in shape, i.e. you do not have to cut the segments.
Dimensions of the completed telephone stand according to our plan are as follows: 781 (30 3/4 in) x 457mm (18 in) x 457mm (18 in).
In this plan, the support part has a very simple form which can be made on a lathe easily and quickly . If you want to additionally decorate your stand, the simplest way to achieve this is to create a more complex design of the support part. In the next picture you can see how a little bit more effort put into making the part mentioned affects the final appearance of this stand.
The idea for this stand came from skimming through an old German book on furniture design from the early 20th century. The original stand in the book had three and the top had only three cut circular segments. Since it is more difficult to make such a stand (due to more complex woodworking joints between the legs), we decided to design a four-leg stand, because in this case the connection between the legs is simpler.
In the drawings you can find all the information you need to make this telephone stand, and in the pictures above you can see two of its versions.
The connection between the parts (braces and legs) legs is ensured with dowels, and the top is fastened to the construction with wood screws.
