If you need an all-purpose table that will come in handy for various needs, then the occasional table that you can make according to this plan is the ideal choice for you!

This practical piece of furniture is beautiful enough to fit into any room in the house, and also convenient enough to satisfy a large number of occasional demands or different functions. Occasional tables are so named because they are tables with no officially designated use. In terms of their appearance and dimensions, however, they can be used as coffee tables, end tables, lamp tables or sofa tables. For example, in the living room such a table may serve well next to a chair or sofa on which you can put a lamp, drink, book etc.; if you put this handy piece in the hallway, keep your keys, a vase, telephone or mail on it; in the bedroom it could replace a nightstand or serve as an auxiliary table for your clothes, jewelry and the like.

Dimensions

- Tabletop: diameter 635mm (2' 1''), height 692mm (2' + 3 1/4'')

- Small tabletop: diameter 381mm (1' 3''), height 327mm (1' + 7/8'')

Its dimensions are such that not only can it replace a large number of table types, but is also easily portable from room to room. If we have convinced you that you need at least one highly functional and beautiful occasional table in the house, feel free to quickly make one according to our plan. A great thing about such a table type is that, in addition to the useful surface at the top (tabletop), there is also a shelf beneath it to keep some items, i.e., the table has two tiers and when you look at it, it seems like a smaller table is inside a bigger one.

Assembly drawing
Occasional table - Assembly drawing, exploded view and parts list

If you take a look at the assembly drawing, you will see that its construction consists of slats interconnected by dowels, an upper (tabletop), usable area and a lower (Small tabletop - Shelf), less usable area. Both the tabletop and shelf are connected to the wooden structure using dowels. Of course, you can use other methods to join the parts; there are many ways you can connect the tabletop to the table construction, and there are also a large number of woodworking joints that can be used to make the construction. We recommend that you make the table legs from solid wood and the tabletop and shelf from laminated plywood. If you are going to keep this table in only one room, adjust the finish to the rest of the furniture in that room. If you are going to use this table for different purposes and in different rooms, then you’ll have to think twice when it comes to the texture and color of the table.

The construction of the table is very simple, so you can adjust it to your needs by changing the height and diameter of the tabletop and small tabletop (shelf). By the way, we got the idea to draw a DIY plan for this occasional table when we saw a similar one in a furniture store. We can freely say that, in reality, it looks really nice and matches other modern furniture with simple lines.
