Ornithoptera goliath (or Goliath Birdwing) is a butterfly of the Papilionidae family that can be found in rainforests of New Guinea. O. goliath has a wingspan up to 28cm (11 in) which makes it the second largest butterfly in the world. The Goliath birdwing shows strong sexual dimorphism. Females are significantly larger than males, and the basic color of their wings is dark-brown. Males are smaller with wings that have a showy green, black and yellow pattern, which makes them very attractive.

These large, beautifully colored butterflies are attractive to collectors, so that the indigenous inhabitants of New Guinea farm and sell them to collect income.
